June 24, 2018 Sunday-We start our 7 day tour to Yellowstone with some great stops along the way. Today was just a travel day, but a nice stopover in Deadwood. Not much happens here on Sundays so we’ll stop again on the way home.
June 25, 2018 Monday – It was a perfect day. We started out with a trip to Devils Tower. The size of this rock is a sight to see. The formation is so unique. Everyone enjoyed our time here, even those who have been here before. A scenic drive through the Big Horn National Forest and another fun stop in the afternoon at the Thermopolis Dinosaur Museum. Topping off our night, our hotel has great food and free slot play at the Wind River Casino
June 26, 2018 Tuesday – On the highway we saw many pronghorn antelope grazing in the fields. In Dubois we stopped for a tour, informative talk, and film at the National Big Horn Sheep Museum. From here, into Bridger Teton National Forest and onto the Grand Tetons for pictures. Snow still covers the peaks. Into Yellowstone we went straight to the hotel the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, located next to the Old Faithful geyser and boardwalks, we had ample time to take it all in. There was even a bison resting close by.
June 27, 2018 Wednesday – You couldn’t ask for a better day. Sunny with blue sky and high 70’s as we made our way throughout Yellowstone. A local guide explained how the geysers work and took us to the best spots, Gibbon Falls, Hayden Valley, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and of course the view of Yellowstone Falls. Tonight we sleep in Cody, but not before a delicious buffet and some good cowboy music at the Cody Cowboy Company.
June 28, 2018 Thursday- Another perfect day. Sunny and warm but the scenery through the Big Horn Mountains was fantastic. So other than riding and enjoying the scenery, today we saw a moose right next to the road, we stopped took some pictures and both of went our separate ways. It sure was a big highlight for the day. We arrived early in Deadwood and stayed again on the main street and walked up the way to one of the daily shootouts. So entertaining! Deadwood is great.
June 29, 2018 Friday- A full day of sightseeing. A drive through the hills found us at Mount Rushmore. What a patriotic stop. The weather is beautiful. Our next stop for lunch was at Wall Drug. So many shops and available choices for lunch. We next drove through the Badlands and saw bison, big horn sheep and prairie dogs. Tonight we stayed at the new Baymont Inn next to Al’s Oasis.
June 30, 2018 Saturday -On our way home, we stopped in Mitchell, SD for a tour of the Corn Palace. It’s such an iconic stop for anyone passing through the state. Our first big rain of the trip happened in Winona. More pictures to follow.
