September 20, 2018  Thursday -We had a full day of touring. We started out at the Gettysburg visitor center with a introductory movie about the events leading up to the battle. A guide joined us for a tour on our bus around the battlefield with colorful commentary. After lunch and some time in the museum, we drove to Washington DC. Our first stop was the Museum of American History. What a place from Archie Bunkers chair to Abraham Lincolns hat, it covers a long history of the USA. On our way to the World War II Memorial we were lucky enough to see Marine One come in, land at the White House and later leave, that was special. After checking into the hotel, we made the short drive back to DC for a tour of the monuments to see how they look at night.

September 21, 2018 Friday -We had a city tour today stopping at the White House, The Lincoln, Jefferson, Korean, Vietnam, Martin Luther King and the Roosevelt Memorials. It was a full morning mixed with some rain. The afternoon was spent visiting more of the museums on the mall.

September 22, 2018  Saturday – Another full day of touring. No trip to Washington would be complete if you didn’t tour the Capitol. The Capitol is an amazing building and our guide covered its unbelievable history. Our next stop was another tour at the Washington National Cathedral.  Another architectural masterpiece. Our last stop was guided tour of the Arlington National Cemetery. We stopped at the Kennedy grave site and watched the changing of the guard.  A busy day and we even worked in a stop at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

September 23, 2018 – Sunday- It’s Sunday already, we started with  tour of Mount Vernon. The George Washington Estate has lots to see. First a film then a tour inside the mansion. A trip to the grave site with time for lunch and visit the museums. They even have his dentures on display. It rained all morning but we still saw what we came for. This afternoon we travel to Belle Vernon to the Hampton Inn for our evenings accommodations.

September 24, 2018 Monday- It’s a rainy day with an indoor stop in Dayton Ohio at the United States Air Force Museum. Aircraft from the beginning World War I era to the present time are on display in 4 massive hangers. A special section dedicated to the aircraft used by past presidents is everyone’s favorite. So much to see, we could have spent the whole day here but we must move on. Tonight we stay at the Drury Inn in Indianapolis.
