May 11, 2024-Saturday

It’s the start of our 15 day vacation. We travelled many miles today. We have a full bus of 54 passengers and lot’s of luggage. We passed through Iowa, Omaha Nebraska, and all the way to North Platte. At North Platte we stay at the Fairfield Inn. Sunny today and low 80’s.

May 12, 2024- Sunday

Rain, Sun, Hail and a cooler day for a ride through the Rocky Mountains. Just outside of Denver, we stopped at Lookout Mountain to see Buffalo Bill Cody’s grave. We had time for lunch and a tour of his museum. The rain stopped just in time for some pictures and some good times outside the bus. A very scenic drive to Grand Junction through the Glenwood Canyon and the ski slopes along the way, yes, they are still skiing.

May 13, 2024- Monday

It was a great sunny day in the low 80’s.  Today at Monument Valley on the Navajo Nation, private jeeps, with guides drove us in the park for great views of the buttes and mesas. We had  lunch under the sunny skies and saw places where classic western films were made. Time to leave so we boarded our coach for a trip to Tuba City and the Navajo Land Hotel. An interesting fact, the hotel is on the reservation and alcohol is not allowed anywhere.

May 14, 2024- Tuesday

At the Grand Canyon today, it was sunny and high 60’s. We had plenty of time to visit the viewpoints, do some shopping and have lunch. Tonight we’ll stay at the Golden Nugget in Laughlin. Expecting sunny skies in the 90’s.

May 15, 2024- Wednesday

A hot day reaching 94 degrees. In California we stopped at the Barstow Station for lunch then stopped at the Borax  open pit mine. The largest Borax mine in the world, we saw the trucks, the pit and a replica of the 20 mule team. Borax is used  as a cleaner, fertilizer, glass components and many more uses. For the next two nights we stay at the Tachi Casino and we all received $20 free slot play.

May 16, 2024- Thursday

What a pleasant day at Kings Canyon National Park, sunny and high 60’s. On the drive to the park, all we saw  were groves and groves of trees. Although we couldn’t tell the type, Squaw  Valley grows, oranges, apricots, peaches, lemons, pomegranate and many more fruits and vegetables. The General Grant tree is 2700 years old and the 3rd largest in the world. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at Simonean Farms for a wine tasting demonstration.

May 17, 2024- Friday

A cloudy misty day in the 60’s. Our first stop was the Elephant Seal Vista. What a chance to see wild elephant seals. They just lay around with very little activity, still neat to see. Nearby is the Hearst Castle. The home of William Randolph Hearst is magnificent. The grounds are planted with beautiful flowers and plants and are maintained to perfection.  Inside the house, the tour guide was so informative about this extravagant place, The swimming pools were over the edge and everyone walked away impressed. Tonight we stay at the Crowne Plaza, the only hotel on Ventura Beach.
