Trip Journal

Departure date: 01/23/2019

It’s our 17th cruise and if you want to take it all in, come back to our website for photos and a daily description. Next year we’ll have a 7 day cruise from Port Canaveral.

January 23 – 2019 – Wednesday- When we started our tour today, the weather was surprisingly good. But after La Crosse and Tomah, the highway was icy and snowy. Soon the freeway was closed and all traffic detoured for some long delays. We saw a number of wrecked semis in the ditches and along the guard rails. Our schedule was off and we didn’t get to the hotel until 7:30 pm.

January 24 – 2019 – Thursday- It was a sunny day as we stopped in Nashville. We had BBQ lunch at the George Jones Museum, then a chance to see the exhibits at the Museum. It was a nice day to walk the streets, hear the music and visit the shops. The rest of day was on the highway south to Montgomery Alabama staying at the Drury Inn.

January 25 – 2019 – Friday- It’s sunny all day in the mid 50’s. After a southern buffet of catfish, collard greens and rutabagas.  We toured the Pebble Hill Plantation in Thomasville Georgia. An impressive home filled with original furniture and art works. Tonight we’ stay at the Double Tree in Gainseville Florida.

January 26 – 2019 – Saturday- Today started out sunny then clouded over. Warm enough in low 60’s but kind of windy. We spent the day in Orlando at Universal Studios. Some of our favorite rides were Jimmy Fallons race through New York and the Minions. There were shows from Amazing Animal Acts to the music of the Blues Brothers. At the end of the day, everyone was glad to see the bus and the hotel.

January 27 – 2019 – Sunday- Today we drive to the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. It’s raining all day but fortunately, everything is inside for the aquarium. Sharks, sea turtles and an abundance of fish are on display. At noon we boarded our ship and departed at 4:00 PM to begin our cruise.

January 28 – 2019 -Monday- At sea today with sunny skies and mid 70’s. It’s a great day to see all that the ship has to offer and take in the weather. There are shows at night and some fantastic food in the dining room.

January 29 – 2019 – Tuesday-Arriving in Cozumel, it’s another sunny warm day. The crystal clear blue waters are unbelievable. Three other ships have docked here and with all the things to do, it’s no wonder. At the end of the day, we’re back on the ship and on our way to the next port.

January 30 – 2019 – Wednesday-Today we tendered into the port at Belize. Sunny and warm all day. Once on shore there were tours to the beaches or a history tour on board local buses. At night more entertainment including Hasbro the Game Show.

January 31 – 2019 – Thursday-While it’s 20 to 30 below back home, In Costa Maya Mexico we have sun and 80 degrees with cool coastal winds. It’s quite a contrast we are enjoying. At this port you can swim with the dolphins, walk among the birds, shopping of course and a wide variety of tours. Back on the ship, the entertainment never stops.

February 1 – 2019 – Friday- At Sea, another warm day to rest and take part in the ships activities.

February 2 – 2019 – Saturday-back in Tampa, once off the ship we were on our way north. Tonight we stayed at the Hyatt in Columbus Georgia.

February 3 – 2019 -Sunday-At the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama, we toured all the displays and exhibits. It was enjoyed by all, and after lunch, we went to Nashville. The Gaylord Opryland Resort has so many plants and water features throughout the hotel, it’s just beautiful. With over 2800 rooms, it’s one of the largest in the country. Tonight we had dinner and show at the Nashville Nightlife Dinner Theater. It was a great way to end the day.

February 4 – 2019 -Monday-After a late check out, we left the Opryland Hotel for Hendersonville Tennessee. We picked up Kenny, the drummer from the Nasville Nightlife Dinner Theater and he showed us around town. We went to Johnny and June Carter Cash’s grave sites and met up with another musician then listened and sang a few Johnny Cash songs. Quite a unique experience. Around town a little more stopping at Twitty City, then William Lee Goldens home from the Oak Ridge Boys then we went for lunch. Stopped for a break in Metropolis then onto Effingham Illinois for the night.

February 5 – 2019 -Tuesday-Back home to snow, driving was ok up until the last 2 hours. It sure reminded us of why it’s so good to take a winter vacation.
