September 3, 2019 Tuesday -Today was a travel day as we left the Midwest for Cape Cod. It was warm and windy as we passed thru Chicago on our way to Maumee, Ohio for the night.
September 4, 2019 Wednesday-Today was a sunny, beautiful day. It was perfect for taking a drive thru the rolling hill of Pennsylvania on our way to Penn’s Cave. We passed thru some Amish communities on our way to the cave. At the cave, most of us traversed the 48 steps to the mouth of the cave. Once in the boat, the 50 minute tour provided us with amazing sights all while we rode thru the cave. The warm weather made the coolness of the cave a welcome treat.
September 5, 2019 Thursday-Today was another warm and sunny day. We spent the morning driving around NYC. We were 30 miles away, but still had a good view of the Manhattan skyline. We made our way to the aquarium in Norwalk, Ct. They had many things to offer, including a seal demonstration and a shark diver. This evening we checked in to Foxwoods Casino. This massive complex houses multiple casinos, restaurants, theaters and there is even an outlet mall inside.
September 6, 2019 Friday-Today the weather held out as we took in the Mystic Seaport and the Breakers. The seaport had so many ships and exhibits. They even had a massive sailing ship, The Mayflower 2, that is going to be launched tomorrow. In the afternoon we toured the Breakers. The massive Vanderbilt home amazed everyone. From the amazing view to the stunning rooms, all were in awe. We made it to our hotel in Hyannis before the rain came.
September 7, 2019 Saturday-This morning the hurricane was off the Cape Cod coast. It rained and blew all night long and continued in the morning. Our whale watch was cancelled, but we still headed to Provincetown, The rain stopped, but the wind continued to gust over 30 mph while we were there. Our changed plans included a stop at the Pilgrim Monument. It was an informative place and a brave few journeyed to the top. We had our dune tour as planned and that did not disappoint. The dunes scenic beauty is always there no matter what the weather. We also took in the Whydah Pirate Museum. With real artifacts from a nearby sunken ship, the museum gave us a look at some very rare finds up close. The day concluded with a lobster dinner with all the fixin’s.
September 8, 2019 – Sunday- Today the storm passed and the weather was very pleasant. We spent a few hours at the Norman Rockwell Museum. we had a nice box lunch on the covered terrace before taking in the grounds. It’s quite amazing to think about all the work one man could produce. Every cover from the Saturday Evening Post is on display along with many other priceless works of art. It was truly an up close trip down memory lane for a lot of us. The evening was spent at Turning Stone Casino in NY.
September 9, 2019 Monday-Today we crossed into Canada. The weather was bright and warm as we had lunch in the Skylon Tower. At 775 feet above the falls, it was a perfect day for pictures on the observation deck followed by a delicious meal in the revolving restaurant. After lunch we headed to the falls. The mist was heavy at times, but the sun made for some amazing pictures complete with rainbows. Standing that close gives a real perspective on the power of the falls.
September 10, 2019 Tuesday-We crossed back into the US. Our group stopped for a visit at the Stahl’s Auto Foundation. This private collection contained classic cars from every era. The best part is that almost all the cars are accessible, you can stick your head inside if you like. Also, the automatic music machines ranged from 3 feet high to taking up an entire wall. Everyone was overwhelmed with all that we saw at the museum.
September 11, 2019 Wednesday-It’s our last day together as we return from the east coast. We had a brush with the hurricane but everything turned out ok and we sure took in a lot of scenery. Back home today, we arrived safely and ahead of schedule.
