It’s a tip across the northern plains into Canada for one of their largest events, the Calgary Stampede. The show after the chuck wagon races is amazing. Couple the entertainment and the scenery of the Canadian Rockies and you have all the elements of a great vacation.

July 13, 2018 Friday-Today we started our trip to Calgary and Banff. Early downpours gave way to warm sunshine as we traveled to Deadwood for some gambling and Old West action.
July 14, 2018 Saturday- We left Deadwood and traveled thru Wyoming and into Montana. The weather was warm and sunny as we spotted several antelope on our way. We had a comfortable lunch outdoors before heading to the site of Custer’s Last Stand. We were treated to a detailed account from our guide who seemed to be able to make the whole battle come to life. We spent the night in Great Falls
July 15, 2018 Sunday-We left the States and crossed into Canada. The warm sun made the canola fields seem so colorful, they go on for miles. After checking in at our hotel, we headed to the Calgary Stampede. The fair atmosphere was exciting, but the big event were the chuck wagon races. It was the last night and the winner of the final race received $100,000.00. After the races, we were treated to an unbelievable show that’s hard to describe. The day was topped off with a huge fireworks extravaganza.
July 16, 2018 Monday- After an exciting night, we took a slower approach to the day. We spent the morning at Heritage Village where we saw how life was lived in the past. From horse and buggy to steam engine to vintage cars and shops, there was something for everyone. In the afternoon, we took a short ride to Banff, where we checked in for two nights inside the park, surrounded by mountains.
July 17, 2018 Tuesday- Another day with perfect weather.We enjoyed a scenic drive thru the Bow Valley on our way to the glacier. The warm sun made being on the ice seem very refreshing. Some of us even samples the glacial water. A picturesque ride back completed our day with stops at Bow Lake and Lake Louise,
July 18, 2018 Wednesday-Our last day in Banff. Sunny skies and great temps made for spectacular views as we went to the top of Sulphur Mountain. The views went on forever. Down below, we got an up close view of Bow Falls. Our last stop was at the Cascade Gardens. The renovation done in the last years made for a colorful setting as we left behind the mountains.
July 19, 2018 Thursday-After a stormy night the morning was sunny and cool. After lunch, we had a short ride to the RCMP Heritage Center. It’s the home of the Mounties. Here we were given an idea of just how hard it is to become a Mountie. After a riding tour of the grounds, we had time to visit the museum and use the simulators for driving and horse back riding.We even had time to try on some uniforms.
July 20, 2018 Friday More sunny skies and great weather as we headed back into the States. We crossed the border with just a few delays before heading to the Scandinavian Heritage Center in Minot.
July 21, 2018 Saturday- We’ve just completed our 2018 Calgary Stampede and Canadian Rockies tour. It may have been our best trip up yet. Perfect weather, breathtaking scenery and spectacular entertainment made for an unforgettable trip. Thanks to all who went along.
